This letter will provide information regarding the application process for a District 28 Senatorial Scholarship. The application is attached to this letter. In order to qualify for a Senatorial Scholarship, you must have filed your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st, 2022. Please understand that this is a requirement of the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), and I cannot award a scholarship to anyone who has not filed their FAFSA.
Additionally, to be considered for a Senatorial Scholarship you must be a resident of District 28. Before applying, please verify that you live in District 28 by going to mdelect.net and input your current address to verify that I am your State Senator. This will ensure that, you are applying to the correct office.
All District 28 Senatorial Scholarship Applications and required unofficial transcripts must be submitted via regular mail (postmarked March 15th) or email by March 15th, 2022. Late applications will only be considered after all other awards are made. You will be notified of receipt of your application by email within two weeks of my office receiving your completed application. If you do not receive notification, please follow-up with my office to ensure that your application was received.
You may use this scholarship at an out of state school only if your major is not available at a Maryland school. The Office of State Financial Aid must verify your major is “unique”. To be considered for unique major approval, contact The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), at www.mhec.state.md.us for the requirements.
If you are already a recipient of a Senatorial Scholarship, your award is automatically renewed.
I look forward to receiving your application. If you have any questions, please contact my office at 410-841-3616 or by email at arthur.ellis@senate.state.md.us.
Sincerely,
Arthur Ellis
